THE NEED WE SERVE Albuquerque's hospitals provide the best medical care available, and Casa Esperanza works with area hospitals to extend the best "human" care available. We provide appropriate housing and emotional support for patients and their families who reside temporarily in Albuquerque while the patient receives treatment. Casa Esperanza's families come to us from all backgrounds and income levels, but they share one thing in common - each family is facing fear and emotional upheaval.

Casa Esperanza, Inc. (505)277-9880 EIN# 85-0356946
Provides a home away from home for families facing cancer, by offering affordable
temporary lodging in Albuquerque, while patients receive treatment at local cancer facility.
CASA'S HISTORY Casa Esperanza, Inc. began with the vision of the UNM Cancer Center Board of Advisors and the Realtor Association of New Mexico. Founded April 9, 1987 as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization, Casa Esperanza began raising funds to build an independent nonprofit home to house families who are referred to Albuquerque for cancer treatment, regardless of their financial situation. The original sponsors were joined in 1990 by BUILD New Mexico, and their combined efforts resulted in completion of our home in February 1992.
CASA'S FACILITIES Casa Esperanza is located in Albuquerque, NM at 1005 Yale NE, bordered by UNM North Golf Course, walking paths and designated open space. This quiet location is convenient to all Albuquerque hospitals. Casa Esperanza, an 18,000 square foot residence, can accommodate 28 families at a time, for both long and short-term stays. Twelve suites and 16 rooms (4 fully handicap-accessible), all fully furnished, offer family living space separate from sleeping areas, and each of the 28 family units has a private phone with voice mail, bathroom and television. Four fully equipped kitchens, a common dining area, and a spacious common room encourage personal responsibility, therapeutic interaction and sharing among families. The fully fenced backyard playground enhances the family atmosphere. The conference room offers a quiet space for individual, family, or small group counseling, and families have complete privacy in their individual rooms and suites.
In 2009, Kathleen Phillips Hellman, of Capitan NM, designed and created memorial stained glass windows for the lobby of Casa Esperanza in memory of her husband, Bob Hellman (below).
