If you have any of the symptoms listed you are at risk. Venous disease is a progressive disease that will only worsen if left untreated. Our mission is to help you “end the cycle of Venous Disease” through effective patient screening techniques. Our goal is to identify your problem areas and help you seek treatment. Healthy legs can be yours again!
Conditions contributing to varicose veins include genetics, obesity, pregnancy, hormonal changes (or menopause), work or hobbies requiring extended standing, and past vein diseases such as thrombophlebitis (i.e. inflammation of a vein as a blood clot forms) or past blood clots. Women suffer from varicose veins more than men, and the incidence increases to 50% of people over age 50.
The first step in treatment is to identify the source of venous reflux. This can be done by a simple screening process based on family history and physical exam. Both legs will need to be evaluated and both legs should receive a complete duplex ultrasound exam. The ultrasound exam can identify problem areas related to valve damage, direction of blood flow, and velocity of blood flow in the leg. Identification of the source of reflux is very important as your doctor will then weigh and discuss your treatment options with you. The entire limb must be evaluated to help with a successful treatment. The first step is the screening process!
