Las Posadas Plaza Reenactment: Under the glow of colored lights strung among the trees, Santa Fe hotel guests are invited to watch and participate along with several hundred locals, in the annual candle light procession that travels through the Santa Fe Plaza. Las posadas means “the inn” or “the shelter” in Spanish. The holiday known as Las Posadas recreates the biblical struggle of Joseph and Mary as they journey to Bethlehem in search of shelter prior to the birth of Christ. This religious and social celebration is a reenactment of this difficult journey. The procession begins at the Palace of the Governors and is joined by locals from the community. After walking through the Plaza, the procession returns to the Palace of the Governors, where hot drinks and biszochitos (Spanish cookie) are served. This Santa Fe annual event is free and open to the public. Date: This event in held in December. Please visit the Palace of the Governors website for more information.
