About Our Practice
Welcome to the website of Jarner Law Office. I hope this website can provide you with useful information. I have been practicing law in New Mexico since 1982 focusing primarily on the representation of Injured Workers in New Mexico, and also individuals who have been Injured in Motor Vehicle accidents, Falls, and as a result of Defective Products.
Mr. Jarner and Staff
Mr. Jarner graduated with distinction in 1978 from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors degree, and earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico Law School in 1982.
Although my office is located in Los Lunas (20 miles south of Albuquerque), I am in Albuquerque on average three to four days per week (usually at or near the Workers' Compensation Administration near the intersection of Yale and Gibson). I welcome the opportunity to meet with clients in Albuquerque.
I have two full-time secretaries/paralegals, Donna Guiswite and Heather Garcia, who are highly efficient and eager to assist my clients.
I have been recognized by the New Mexico Supreme Court's Specialization Committee as a Workers' Compensation specialist since 1992. I have been licensed as an attorney, in good standing, since 1982 and have never had my license to practice law suspended or revoked.
My fees are always contingent on my ability to obtain benefits for my clients. In personal injury cases the fees usually range from 25 percent to 33 1/3 percent of the recovery.
In workers' compensation cases the fee is usually a smaller percentage of the benefits (usually 20 percent or less) and the workers' compensation insurance company is required by law to pay one-half of that fee with very few exceptions.
Therefore, the client usually pays no more then 10 percent of his benefits as an attorney's fee in workers' compensation cases. I also advance costs of litigation (such as filing fees, deposition costs, and medical records). The client is responsible to reimburse these costs once the case is concluded. Usually the costs in workers' compensation cases does not exceed $100, and in motor vehicle accident cases the costs average from between $100 to $300 but can, exceed $1,000 if the case is heavily litigated.
Free Initial Consultation
I do not charge for an initial consultation, and there is absolutely no obligation to hire me to represent you on your case either before or after the initial consultation. The consultation usually lasts between one and two hours and allows me an opportunity to obtain from you the details of your accident so that I can advise you about your rights and answer your questions.
To contact me, you are welcome to call, write or contact me through my website by providing the information requested on our convenient form (see Contact Us).
