Welcome to Gearing Up!
Taos is a magical, mystical, spiritual center, located in north-central New Mexico in the spectacular Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) Mountains, so named for their purple-red hue when the sun is setting.
Gearing Up Bicycle Shop is housed in a beautiful 100-year old building, conveniently located in the heart of the historic district of downtown Taos, which is part of the famous Enchanted Circle Loop.
Rey Deveaux and Sherry Koch, the owners, have been happily serving bicyclists since the summer of 1991. Their love and devotion to the business ensures that one or the other, or both, can always be found personally waiting on customers at the shop.
Rey is a third generation Taoseno with a comprehensive knowledge of the area and its history. He has spent his entire life bicycling and exploring the mountains and trails of the area. Sherry moved to Taos from Iowa in 1984 and became hooked on cycling in Taos after her first ride up to beautiful Taos Ski Valley that summer.
Rey and Sherry are bicycling enthusiasts who want to share their experience and love of the sport with other cyclists.

Our sales people can help fit the bicycle correctly and advise you as to the best bike for your needs and the best accessories and clothing to go with your bicycle. (You will never hear us say, "We don't have the right bike for you, but we can retrofit one to make it work".).
We allow test rides for you to choose the best bike and fit for you.
Our professionals can give you free cycling advice.
Summer is in full swing. The South Boundary Trail is in great condition. Rey helped the forest service and other volunteers work on cleaning up the trail late this spring, and everyone is loving it. Don't forget that Rey has a shuttle to the South Boundary Trail. Look on our shuttle page
for more info.
Check out Northside at Taos Ski Valley, if you haven't ridden that yet. It is where the Frazer Mtn. Madness race will take place.
Also, riders have been enjoying the 9 mile singletrack loop called the Rift Trail (Taos Valley Overlook), a more moderate to intermediate trail with beautiful views of the Gorge and the River.
We have seen more riders out on the roads and trails than ever before. It is wonderful to see. The weather has been perfect, cool in the mornings and between 70 to mid 80's during the day. The fire ban has been lifted.
A few sprinkles here and there. We should be getting into our "monsoon seasoon" soon, so plan to do your rides early, if possible. Come on in to the shop if you need ideas about where to ride. We have lots of maps and info.
This month is our shop's 19th anniversary! It has been quite a ride, to say the least, but we have enjoyed it. Most of our customers are "top-notch" and we love spending time with them and riding with them. A big Thank you to all of them and to all of you future customers!
May through September: Open every day 9:30-6:00
Winter hours: Open 5 days a week 10am-6pm, days to be announced.
