Indian House is a 42 year old record company in Taos, NM, specializing in recordings of traditional and powwow Native American Indian music. Founded in 1966 and now with over 150 titles available, Indian House has a reputation as a label committed to respectful, selective, high-quality recordings of traditional American Indian music.
Exceptional performances combined with informative liner notes are the hallmarks of Indian House recordings, many of which have been included in the U.S. Library of Congress Select List of Outstanding American Folk Music Recordings. The indigenous-based American Indian music found on Indian House and American Indian Soundchiefs recordings is entirely different from the European-based Native American music popularly heard today.
Recorded on location in the U.S. and Canada, both “live” and in special sessions, Indian House recordings have been a favorite among First Nations music fans for two generations. To the talented singers, composers, and friends who have made these recordings possible, we are forever grateful.
Sound samples are included with most of the recordings in our catalog, and complete ordering information with secure PayPal® credit card service is at your fingertips. Please contact us if you have any questions.
We hope you will enjoy hearing these recordings as much as we have enjoyed making them.
